Baby Clothing Size Guide From Newborn to Five Years

Baby Clothing Size Guide From Newborn to Five Years

Parents often feel unsure about what size to buy. Growth patterns vary, but a few simple rules help:

1. Start with the size that matches age. It's always nice to get a bigger size rather than smaller but you do risk not being able to wear it for a while. Move up to the next size once clothes feel tight around the torso or hard to snap at the crotch. Weight gives stronger guidance than age, so if you have a taller child, read the size chart instead of relying only on months.

2. Newborns grow fast. Some newborns can move through Newborn size within weeks. Choose size 0-3 months as this gives many babies within one to three months to wear and grow into size. Kit & Cradle sizing leans towards the generous size so that you can get more wear out of your garments.

3. Toddlers stay in each size longer. Size 1 and 2 often last about six months each. Size 3 to 5 lasts even longer because growth slows. For our toddler/ kids wear, we size them by age. For example, size 2-3 will suit kids who are 2 years old and 3 years old. Don't automatically upsize in our toddler outfits, this sizing was created to accommodate across 2 ages.

4. Where is the brand made? Australian brands use Australian sizing suitable for the average Australian baby and child. If you're purchasing from offshore brands, be aware that sizing maybe smaller in some countries.

Choose stretch fabrics. They help you get more wear without discomfort. Always check fit around the neck, chest, and crotch. Loose is fine. Tight is not.
